I noticed something was up with your site yesterday. Did you get it all worked out?

  2. 2 Goldfish

Probably just my ISP being a stupid annoying thing for no apparent reason. It bothers me not ;)

Very nice! Takes about 2 or 3 seconds to load the tracks and it’s good to go. I’m gonna try and think of a way to incorporate it permanenty into my site, as I’ll be messing with it all weekend.

  19. 19 sizzle

so where the hell are the pictures of the free stuff??

  20. 20 Wes

I was actually disappointed you didn’t come chat to us at our table, as I’d only just discovered your site linked from the Thing the night before while sat in a hotel room with my missus, thought you might have been interested by our name, and Patrick actually thought your submission to the Thing was ours.

  21. 21 Wes

Scratch that, I just remembered you!
I am such a tool..remember you from last year too, and the whole website thing, and I think Darren and Joff went straight to your site and loved the comic and I never looked.

    Double duh.

I blame it on the sleep depravation, I’ve so far handed in 2 lots of final year degree coursework, edited and gotten printed a brand new comic for this year with Joff having practically drawn it in a day, and spent a whole night printing burning and labelling the CD’s until about 4am in the morning. By the day of the con I’d had about 8 hours sleep in 3 days.

Colour me purple and call me a dipstick. ;)

  22. 22 Goldfish

Haha, yes! I would have stayed a bit longer to chat – but I didn’t for some reason. Sorry I forgot why :p

Next year if I’m exhibiting I might get to experience comic-based sleep deprivation.

Now, I’ve not got that CD to work – which could be down to my craptastic CD drives but what is on it?

  23. 23 Wes

Could be due to my burning them at 4 in’t morning too, if so, damn my eyes! (Name the reference.)

It’s just got a dump of the site, both the original and revised draft of the first comic in PDF form and a load of other random strips taken from mine and Joff’s endeavours.

If you can’t get it to work I’ll pop a copy online.

  24. 24 oliver

It was our first “thing” this year, and was definatly our best convention experience so far. so many talented, creative people everywhere, it made me want to weep. I’ve come back home with a renewed enthusiasm for drawing.
hope to see many of you in bristol or if not, at next year’s thing.
    big love!

The link pointing to Lighttpd for Windows is quite old. The latest version is currently 1.4.13.

This is the general link to Lighttpd, on my site.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

  27. 27 Goldfish

    Sorted :)
    Cheers for the update!

  28. 28 Steve

Hi – Great post. One point is that the map is called the London All-on-one map so if people want to follow your example then this is what they need to ask for. I’m sure the designers will take your point on board about the ultimate destination of buses to places off the map.

  29. 29 Goldfish

Thanks for the correction – I’ve edited the post accordingly. Not sure why I got it into my head that it was called All-in-1 … but it’s fixed now!

  30. 30 Greg Bulmash

I’d show Microsoft my “wow”, but I might get arrested. :-)

Seriously, though, my question is it significantly better than “where do you want to go today?” Unless Windows had turned my PC into a teleporter, where I went had little to do with Windows except when I used it to access MapQuest for directions or Expedia to buy an airplane ticket.

But it’s worth noting that “show us your wow” is 43% fewer words than “where do you want to go today?” If this trend continues, the next OS from Microsoft could have the following marketing slogan: “Windows… arrrgh!”

  31. 31 Devilbluedress

Yep. There are some broken links here. Too bad- might have been interesting…

  32. 32 Goldfish

OOops sorrry! I guess those files dissapeared when I moved hosting! I’ll have to fix them at some point …

  33. 33 Andy Haley

Mate, you are an absolute lifesaver! I found this after 3 hours of messing around with exactly the same problem. nLite is definitely a better tool than the others I had found.

What really gets me going is that a Win98 boot disk finds the drive absolutely fine and will let you fdisk it quite happily, but WinXP setup won’t!

  34. 34 Daniel

    Hi goldfish

I am a teacher of DT and I am scouting around for cheap circuitry to build a mood lamp.

I saw you chat on a site and thought I’d take the chance to ask you to share your mood lamp stuff with two of my students to use as reference. I’ll check that they only use the inspiration and quote you as source.

this will work well with laser cut lamp designs.

I will be very happy if you reply to this mail.

    regards

    Dan

I did make the cd as mentioned but when i boot up using this cd my computer is not booting with it and otherwise when i use this cd otherwise it seems to be a bootable disk. Tried it twice any take on that.

Matt gave me an excellent book for my birthday last year – Politically Incorrect Bedtime Stories.

“There was once a young person name Red Riding Hood who lived with her mother on the edge of a large wood. One day her mother asked her to take a basket of fresh fruit and mineral water to her grandmother’s house – not because this was womyn’s work, mind you, but because the deed was generous and helped engender a feeling of community. Furthermore, her grandmother was not sick, but rather in full physical and mental health and fully capable of taking care of herself as a mature adult.”

  37. 37 Katie

PS, dead piece of tree?! I think you mean life impaired.

  38. 38 probono

You’re wrong: Common libraries will NOT go in every package downloaded with klik!

  39. 39 fish

However, how do you define common exactly?

  40. 40 Katie

The problem I was having was less about syncing both my .mac and Google Calendar (because I was only actually syncing .mac; my iCal calendars are just downloaded subscriptions from Google for reference when I’m offline) and having used a Google Calendar sync plugin, it had duplicated everything, so I had to try and wipe the phone, and re-sync, and iSync was sulking because my phone makes all-day events read only and it couldn’t delete them.

In all, there is really no problem with syncing – as long as you only try to use one method.

  41. 41 fish

It appears that a) ScheduleWorld is badly designed and b) rather clunky to use.

The issue I was thinking about is allowing you to sync changes from your local calendar (say, you’re phone) to Google calendar (as opposed to a one-way sync). If this did what it said, it’d work for that – however it doesn’t.

  42. 42 Ben

thank you so much. I messed about with this for a whole weekend. I tried installing the SATA driver after installing windows xp, but it didnt work. Following your instructions has got it working again with native sata enabled! nice one

  43. 43 B

Yeah I have only ever seen black people do it too. It’s really odd but the “west African” ethnicity if not to use the term “black” tend to always be ‘glued’ to their phones but when talking hold their mobile phone infront of their face as if it is some sort of like you said half duplex device like a walkie talkie.

I don’t know if its a cultural thing.. of its a race thing … or if its just one of those “WHAY DOZ MAH FUNE NOT WERK ON DE BUZ NO MORR” moments :-)

  44. 44 MattP

That looks awesome! Hmm, I might make some brownies for this evening. (Housewarming party of some mates)

  45. 45 Elli

    I need that recipe!

  46. 46 nirckoh

Thanks alot for this been wondering of a workaround tried installing the drivers before..but your style works like magic easy as 1,2,3 …

  47. 47 Synapse Syndrome

So did your reflow work? Does the laptop work well now? I am planning to do the same with mine.

  48. 48 Fish

Actually, no. I have a feeling there was more wrong with it than just bad solder joints.

  49. 49 Synapse Syndrome

Oh well.. I am sure the video corruption is due to a bad connection on mine, as the corruption appears in screenshots and it disappears when I press onto the graphics chip heatsink. I am just waiting for an IR thermometer that I bought on eBay before I attempt it.
