Web Design Poem

I’m not exactly a poet, but my recent experiences adapting to a new method of designing for the web has inspired me (maybe that’s not the word, perhaps “aggravated” is more appropriate) to write this little poem about the “little quirks” in CSS.

<table>’s were your best friend
’till they’re old hat,
No longer ‘the trend’.
So now we hail to divs, blocks and spans,
Poor tables are now in ‘no web man’s land’.

Two column layouts were such an easy job,
A row, ‘coupla cells, your uncle’s is bob.
Now sidebars won’t go where they should,
They sulk at the bottom
That just ain’t no good!
Text blocks like to flow over each other,
Like some sort of strange typographical lover!
Move over and up you dumb div’y bitch!
I’VE SET ALL YOUR MARGINS AND YOUR PIXEL WIDTH!!

This CSS will surely drive you mad.
You can’t take your sites looking this bad
But before you go grab your hand gun,
GRAAAR! div{display:none;}!!

New Design

Looks like I’ve got the new design running. Hmm, not bad. What do you think? Had a bit of trouble getting the theme to work for a while, turns out a line of code that was said to be “optional” actually wasn’t optional at all.
All I’ve got ta do now is tweak some CSS and maybe make a print.css file as well.

AND it’s all perfectly XHTML1.0 Strict complaint, ooof lovlay.

EndIf radio

Anyone out there who’s dangerously interested in technology would certainly find this radio show interesting.
The reason I mention it is because I was asked to do a short sting for the show earlier on this week, thought these guys would appriciate some incoming links :)

MSN Search

Recently MSN search has come online publically, along with many Microsoft adverts to herald its launch.
I find it slightly amusing that if you put “cillitbang” into MSN Search, the second search result after cillitbang.co.uk is my blog entry about it
CillitBang Results on MSN Search

And there we also find Cillit Bang the BAND (try saying that drunk) , a York based band formed in 2004, who were mentioned in the Daily Telegraph no less! Whats in a name? National recognition, thats what!
