Rush in Manchester

RushSunday night was interesting. Left for Manchester and got back at about 2am. Well worth the tiring trip of over 200 miles, though.

I went to see Rush in the MEN Arena for their 30th Anniversary Tour Gig. Sure beats Wembley :)

As shown by the thread on MajorGeeks Forums, Neil Peart (the drummer) is possibly the best rock drummer that ever lived. His drum solo is possibly the most crazy thing I’ve ever seen in my life! Exceptionally good drummer.

As a band, they are …. very.. good. Very good indeed. They are VERY together, and obviously have known each other for a long time. The guitarist (Alex) is phenomenal, and so is the bassist/vocalist (Geddy).

My fave moment was probably during one of the songs (arrghh, I forget which) where Alex talks incomprehensible giberish for ages while doing a guitar solo at the same time. He did this for about a minute with his eyes closed, and then suddenly opened them and said “Where did all of you come from?” :D

I got a couple of pictures while I was there…

Neil Peart's Bike Trailer

This here is (I think) Neil Peart’s bike trailer. Nabbed a pic with my Treo while we went on the search for food. The story goes that to every gig on a tour they do, on the last leg he gets out a motorbike and rides to the venue. (Ignore the graffiti about Westlife, they don’t rule they SUCK).

Have a look at the Rush Website you can find some rather good pictures of the tour that I went to see. Somewhat better than my attempt :

And also as an aside, the visuals were done using Alienware laptops. Very nice looking in the tech-enclosure ;)
